Art Education: Be Careful or It May Suck!!
I’ve drawn all my life. Most kids draw on the walls. Instead of yelling at me, my mother put paper on the walls to protect them.
I grew up creating my own versions of my favorite Marvel comics, and some of the few childhood memories I have are about drawing. As a teenager I won 3rd place at a comic con against older teens in my age group, losing only to 18 year olds. In the early...

Female Entrepreneurs →
michelleltrevino:
I started my business in 2000. As a young woman in the tech sector, I faced many challenges, but the one thing I wouldn’t do was undervalue my work. I think that was the key to my success from the beginning. It’s also why I see so many businesses fail.
Unfortunately, women have to be twice as dedicated to get the same respect as men in the workplace. Especially in the tech...

Tutorial: Creating Knockout Letters
When creating your own manga, comic or graphic novel, you’ll usually end up adding some text to it. You can do this on the computer once you scan in your artwork (or as part of the process if you do all your drawing and inking digitally), or using a pen directly on your art as you ink. Typically, you’ll create the layout to accommodate black words on a white background or in a word...

We who make stories know that we tell lies for a living. But they are good lies...

And that’s why we need writers… (via michelleltrevino)

Celebration Time!
Last night I received word via my Twitter friend, Erik, that I was one of the winners of a contest held over the summer by ShonenJUMP magazine. SJ publishes manga (Japanese comics) chapters in a Japanese weekly edition and an international monthly edition, to introduce some of the manga they publish worldwide. The contest was based on creating a 4-page “name” (the manga word for...

ShonenJUMP storyboard contest!
I just found out my storyboard for the @shonenjump Bakuman contest made it into this month’s issue!
Available early to subscribers, I won’t see it until Thursday, but a friend on Twitter sent me a congratulations. There were four winners: A grand prize and three runners-up, all of which got published. The grand prize got their entire story printed, while the runners-up got one page....

michelletrevino.com: What I'm most thankful for... →
michelleltrevino:
I may never know what I want or what I’m doing with my life. Most of the time I have my head stuck in the clouds, but that’s what makes me who I am. Sometimes I make mistakes and other times I’m completely proud of myself for what I’ve achieved. I’ve been through rough times as well as wonderful…
Absolutely beautiful and inspiring!

Thankful For Much Less, and Much More
Thanksgiving is a traditional time in the US for people to pause, reflect on the past year and their life, in general, and give thanks for the things they’re blessed with. Over the past few years I haven’t been waiting for some arbitrary day to do that. I’m so thankful each day for the blessings in my life. But here are some things I’m thankful for this Thurdsay.
Many...
